Week 1

During the first week, I contacted the team lead for Guardian's Legacy and learned about his game. Guardian's Legacy is a turn-based RPG similar to Playstation-era RPG's, and is built with a unique skill system.

My first assignment for this team was to post weekly updates on Twitter as well as do research to find out how to start an LLC in Arizona. The former I was unable to accomplish as the Twitter Account is not yet ready. However, the latter I did accomplish, as I found several sources for how to do this, and placed them in a document for the team lead to look at.

The first lecture and reading of this semester was about the four C's: Content, Conduit, Consumption, and Convergence. Content is anything produced and owned by the studio, Conduit is the method by which the game is delivered, Consumption is the method by which people discover and consume the product, and Convergence is anything outside of the product itself that ties into it.

The second lecture and reading was about the message of the company itself, as well as decisions the company has to make. The message is what the company's public image is- What they want to accomplish and what they want the consumer to think of them. This ties into what most of the decisions the company makes are. A notable idea from the lecture is that your company should make sure its employees follow the message- An Indie company that banks itself on artistic integrity should not have its employees openly praising the most recent Madden game on the company forums for instance, as it will feel like a betrayal to the community.
